An important change is being introduced on 1st April when the ability to undertake a Cardholder Not Present Code 10 authorisation will be withdrawn for UK Domestic Maestro Cards.
We strongly recommend that you use the Address Verification System (AVS) as an additional fraud measure when taking CNP transactions. AVS allows you to check the numerical portion of a cardholder's address and the card security code (also known as CVC/CVV) either on your terminal or when calling for CNP authorisation.
It is a free service and is also a quick and easy facility to use that will not slow down your terminal authorisation process and will increase your chances of avoiding fraud.
Additional information can be found on

Questions and Answers
What is AVS?
AVS (Address Verification Service) allows you to check the numerical portion
of a cardholder's address and the card security code (also known as CVC/CVV)
either on your terminal or when calling for CNP (Cardholder Not Present)
authorisation.
Why use AVS?
It is a quick and easy facility to use that will not slow down your terminal
authorisation process and will increase your chances of avoiding fraud.
How much does AVS cost?
AVS is a free service
Does AVS guarantee payment?
No. Neither Streamline nor any other Acquirer offer a guarantee of payment.
However, by checking additional data you are increasing your chances of avoiding
fraud.
What information do I have to obtain from the cardholder?
When you have a CNP transaction ask the customer to give you the address
details as shown on their card statement and the last 3 digits on the signature
strip on the back of the card.
How do I get AVS?
Terminal users – if you rent your terminal from streamline, this facility
should already be available. If you do not rent from us, you should contact your
own terminal supplier
I still take paper card transactions, is AVS available to me?
Yes. This facility is available via the CNP authorisation IVR facility (0845
600 530 option 1). Please note that should any of the authorisation information
be keyed incorrectly, you will be transferred to an advisor and you will need to
ask them to transfer you back into the system.
Is this service available on all debit and credit cards?
No. The service applies to UK issued MasterCard, Maestro Domestic, Visa And
Visa Debit cards only; it cannot be used to check cards issued in other
countries outside the UK.
Any other Queries?
Please refer to Section 11,
Cardholder Not Present, Merchant Operating Instructions.
