As you may know, Switch has now changed its name to Maestro, part of the MasterCard brand. To
complete the transition process in the online environment, you will need to remove the Switch acceptance
mark from your website(s).
In addition, it is a MasterCard requirement that your website has adopted MasterCard SecureCode by 30th
June 2007. Successful implementation of MasterCard SecureCode will give your customers state of the art
fraud protection when shopping with you online using all Maestro Cards. The actions required to complete
this upgrade depend on your individual businesses circumstances and over the coming months you will
receive details of what you need to do to comply with this mandate.
What is MasterCard SecureCode?
MasterCard SecureCode enables cardholders to authenticate themselves to their issuers through the use of
a unique, personal code. It’s an industry wide initiative that is being undertaken in order to address current
consumer concerns about security of online shopping.
What is Verified by Visa?
Verified by Visa is a password protected identity checking service that can take the risk out of online retail.
With the requirement to adopt MasterCard SecureCode, we strongly recommend that you consider having this additional security measure installed on your website to save on costs and minimise any disruption.

MasterCard SecureCode and Verified by Visa are designed to take online shopping security and consumer confidence to a new level.
Utilising the very latest technology, these systems complement your existing fraud prevention procedures and provide your business and your customers with a secure environment in which to carry out transactions.
In addition, once these security measures are introduced the liability for some fraudulent chargebacks will shift from your business to the card issuer.
